SET YOUR TIRE PRESSURE
Low or uneven tire pressure can cost you upwards of 1 mile per gallon! Not to mention low tire pressure can cause premature wear and poses a safety hazard. The cold tire pressure is on the inside of the driver’s door jamb, this pressure is what the factory recommends the tire pressure to be set to when the vehicle has not been moved at all. If the car has been driven- add a few psi to compensate until the pressure can be set properly.
ROTATE YOUR TIRES
A simple tire rotation with every oil service will prolong the life of the tire as well as ensure the best performance during its lifespan.
EASE ON AND OFF THE THROTTLE
When changing speed, it’s most efficient to do so slowly. Ease into and out of the throttle. Not only is it better for your fuel economy, it’s not as harsh on the wear components of the vehicle. The engine mounts, the suspension and steering components. Slow down, speed racer, it’ll save you a lot of money in the long run.
KEEP UP ON MAINTENANCE
A dirty engine air filter, a carboned throttle body, worn spark plugs, clogged fuel injectors, even old worn out fluids can rob fuel mileage. Failure to perform maintenance can also lead to more expensive repairs. Worn out and contaminated fluids can’t protect bearings, seals and pumps like new fluids can. Bypassing maintenance can save you money in the short term, but it can cost you dearly in the long term.
HAVE YOUR VEHICLE INSPECTED
Having an expert inspect your vehicle regularly can catch repairs early, before it ends up damaging other components. Transmission fluid will damage rubber components. A small transmission cooler line leak can turn into a much bigger problem if not taken care of right away. At Affordable Auto, we perform a digital inspection every visit.
